April Fools - wait it's October...

I came across this article in the Reuters Oddly Enough section and thought the end of the article was quite comical. The article, "Iraqi fisherman nets shark 160 miles from sea" is about a shark that was found in a river in Iraq, and here's what was said about it:

"Locals blamed the U.S. military for the shark's presence.

Tahseen Ali, a teacher, said there was a '75 percent chance' Americans had put the shark in the water.

'This is very frightening for us. Our children always swim in the river and I believe that there are more sharks. I believe that America is behind this matter,' said fisherman Hatim Karim."

Who the hell would put a shark in a river? Does that make any sense? And where is this "teacher" getting his stats? I don't know, maybe we Americans are in the business of putting sharks in places they don't belong just for kicks. Perhaps we should start putting rhinos in banks, elephants in shopping centers, and cats behind the wheel of automobiles. I know what it was... It was an April fools joke that no one noticed until now. Yup, that must be it.

Or, this could be a bull shark,
which are known to exist in both fresh and salt water. Plus its the most common "river shark" out there that also gets the title of having killed the most humans. Perhaps that's why it's only a 75% chance this came from us... perhaps that other 25% is reserved for reasonable explanations... nah, I doubt it.

Good Article

I found this article this morning, and I will have to completely agree. These items are indeed a pain for IT. Check it out for yourself:

How is this news!?!?

A story caught my eye today, and I wanted to find out a bit more about it...
Well, after reading a bit, I began to wonder... how is this really news? And why in the hell are they going to ask him to resign for what seems to be nothing. What is going on here? A quote that made me laugh and has me really questioning, why in the hell would he resign for this: "Craig told reporters Tuesday he did not take part in "inappropriate conduct" and said he had "overreacted and made a poor decision" in pleading guilty. No sexual contact is alleged to have taken place, although the officer who arrested the senator said Craig moved his foot to touch the officer's foot while they sat in adjoining restroom stalls." <- How is this something that you can be arrested for? I don't get it. Oops, I'm sorry, I accidentally touched your foot with mine automatically leads to lets have sex in a public restroom? It makes me think back when I was younger, hanging out with my friends. We were joking around with their mother about where babies came from. (And yes, we already were well aware, because we were in college.) We stated that babies happen when two people rub feet without socks on. So I guess in Senator Craig's case, he would not have been impregnated, but he certainly was violating the personal baby making space of the police officer in the stall next to him. Of course, I could be wrong, and this could indeed be a huge deal in the long run, but seriously, let's not report on stuff like this until we actually have news to report. Thanks CNN!

What's happening?

I am so tired of watching the White Sox lose game, after game. I love them, and I'll stand behind them through the thick and thin, but they are breaking my heart. A few people do well and are somewhat consistent enough it seems, but no one else seems to be picking up the slack. They are not working together as a team anymore it seems, and it hurts to say that. That was the one thing that the White Sox had going for them. They were a team! They worked together like no one else could, and they dominated in '05 because of it. What has happened in the last two years that caused them to significantly reduce in their performance? I really wish there was an answer. But I'm just as fed up as Ozzie is. (Read this.) I know they'll bounce back, but I really wish they would bounce back sooner. Either way, I'm a huge fan of the White Sox, and whether or not they are winning or losing, I will love them, and support them. Go SOX!

Ugh!

Ok, I was watching the news this morning, and I noticed something that for one reason or another I haven't noticed in the past. Perhaps it's because I haven't been watching too much news lately because they are turning more into gossip papers and programs, versus actual news; however, what I've noticed has disturbed me. There was the horrible event at Virginia Tech, and now they are reporting that the authorities didn't act in a certain way. And apparently if they reacted in this way things could've been different. No shit! In hindsight everything could've been different. Why in the world do they have to focus on what could've been done and instead pay attention to not allowing things like this to happen again? I cannot stand the media and their wouldas and couldas and shouldas. They aren't doing anything about it, they are just aggravating people, and reporting on things that just aren't news. (i.e. Paris Hilton) I'm just so tired of it! But I'm stuck, because I still need to know what is going on in the world these days.

Introducing a New Art Form: Searching the Internet

I don't know about you, but I feel that searching the all knowing, and all powerful internet for solutions to known Microsoft issues is an art form. You find hundreds of blogs with no solutions, or hundreds of blogs that require you to pay for a solution that isn't really a solution you are looking for (like rebuilding the servers), Microsoft technet pages that are not even close to the same problem you are having, and then finally (if you don't give up) you stumble upon the one thing that works...

For example:
There is a server running Windows Server 2000, Exchange 2000, and IIS 5.0. The other day, people were unable to load any information in their mailboxes while using OWA. They would log into their mailboxes and the only thing that would be displayed is "loading" across the screen. Naturally, one would think that this is an IIS issue. Without even searching the internet for IIS issues, I searched what was happening. I followed all the "fixes" Microsoft suggested to no avail. Finally, I found a registry hack to force OWA to work like it was running early versions of IE, because it was normally an issue with IE 5.0 and later. Once the registry entry was made, everything
seemed to be working. The following day, people started complaining that no attachments were opening and they couldn't open any mail at all. Their inboxes were showing up with mail in them, but they were unable to read any and unable to send any messages. What in the world is going on? I was so frustrated I just wanted to give up. Instead of throwing in the towel, I started the search all over again from the beginning. Using the same technique from earlier, searching what the original problem was. Only until I started from scratch did I stumble upon a Microsoft fix that actually worked...

I don't know why this article did not appear when I was searching the first time, but it just goes to show. If at first you don't succeed... start over completely! :)

Is it baseball season yet?

I'm sitting in the office, looking around, and realized... I don't have any good sports to watch for a couple more months. Basketball is no fun to watch without the Bull's being what they were with Michael and Scottie. I need my White Sox fix! And I'm not the greatest pre-season fan, because it doesn't count, and it's just not as fun. I need baseball!!!! That is all
